Dessert: Christmas Tree Cupcakes

Hidden underneath the tree? An ice cream cone! These cupcakes are a stunning way to breath a little Christmas spirit into your holiday desserts.

Ingredients

1 batch basic gingerbread cupcakes
1 batch vanilla buttercream
2 batches royal icing
green gel food color
12 sugar cones
Tree-light sprinkles

Instructions

Make 1 batch basic gingerbread cupcakes as directed, lining the muffin pan with brown paper liners. Let cool.
Make 1 batch vanilla buttercream as directed. Top each cupcake with 1/4 cup buttercream.
Make 2 batches royal icing as directed and tint using green gel food color. Using a small spatula, smooth 2 teaspoons of green royal icing over each of 12 sugar cones and invert on top of cupcakes.
Fill a piping bag fitted with a small star tip with remaining royal icing. Beginning at the wide end of the cone, pipe small triangle branches in a downward motion around the sugar cone. While icing is wet, decorate with tree-light sprinkles.
