Health and fertility benefits of King Cake Old Fashioned
Cinnamon is one of the best ingredients that someone with insulin sensitivity can eat. Half a teaspoon of cinnamon per day has been shown to be very effective at normalizing blood sugar levels. Cinnamon contains hydroxychalcone, which is thought to enhance the effects of insulin. It has also been suggested that Cinnamon prevents post-meal blood sugar spikes by slowing the gastric emptying rate - meaning that food digests slowly. Ingredients
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup water
6 to 8 (3-inch) cinnamon sticks
Instructions
In a small saucepan, bring the sugar, water, and cinnamon sticks to a boil, stirring occasionally, and continue boiling until the sugar is completely dissolved, 10 to 15 minutes. Cool the syrup then remove and discard the cinnamon sticks. DO AHEAD: Cinnamon syrup can be made ahead and refrigerated, in an airtight container, for up to 1 week.
