Lunch: Stew Burger

Ingredients

3 pounds 90/10 hamburger blend
2 large Spanish onions
1/3 cup paprika
1/4 cup dried oregano
Salt and ground pepper
12 hamburger or kaiser rolls
12 slices white American cheese
Condiments, for serving

Instructions

Using a 1/2 cup measuring cup, shape twelve 4-ounce hamburgers.
Using a large skillet over high heat, sear so the burgers become browned on both sides, 2 to 3 minutes per side. This helps the burger keep its shape.
Next, slice the onions as thinly as possible and place on top of the burgers in the skillet. Sprinkle the paprika on top of the onions, add a light coat of oregano and salt and pepper to taste (optional). Next, add water to almost cover the burgers. Cover the skillet and simmer on medium heat for 45 minutes, reducing to low for 2 to 3 hours, until the onions are stewed and a nice red broth appears.
Serve on a hamburger or kaiser roll, top with cheese, stewed onions and condiments of your choice.
