Lunch: Salted Caramel Sauce

Recipe by Christina Lane This salted caramel sauce does wonders to dessert! Use it in Christina Lane's Chocolate Caramel Mason Jar Lid Tarts for an irresistible treat.

Ingredients

1/3 c. granulated sugar
2 tbsp. unsalted butter
3 tbsp. heavy whipping cream
1/4 tsp. kosher salt

Instructions

Place the granulated sugar in a 1-quart saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring constantly. Continue to stir while the sugar melts completely. It will clump in the beginning, but all the clumps will melt and it will start to turn a light golden brown. Once it is entirely melted, add the butter and stir until the butter melts. Then stir in the cream. Be careful—the caramel will rise up a bit in the pan. Let the mixture boil for 1 minute, stirring continuously.
Remove the caramel from the heat, and stir in the salt. Pour into a container and refrigerate to help it cool. It should be firm, but still pliable.
