Health and fertility benefits of Beef Spice Rub

Cinnamon is one of the best ingredients that someone with insulin sensitivity can eat. Half a teaspoon of cinnamon per day has been shown to be very effective at normalizing blood sugar levels. Cinnamon contains hydroxychalcone, which is thought to enhance the effects of insulin. It has also been suggested that Cinnamon prevents post-meal blood sugar spikes by slowing the gastric emptying rate - meaning that food digests slowly. (Reference: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11506060).

Ingredients

3 tablespoons cumin seeds
2 tablespoons black peppercorns
1 1/2 tablespoons paprika (not hot)
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1 (2-inch) piece cinnamon stick
2 teaspoons whole allspice
1 teaspoon hot red-pepper flakes
Equipment: an electric coffee/spice grinder

Instructions

Toast cumin in a dry small heavy skillet over medium heat, shaking skillet frequently, until fragrant and a shade darker, about 2 minutes. Cool, then finely grind with remaining ingredients in grinder.
