Sauce and Condiment: Cranberry-Apple Relish

Researchers believe that cranberries contain substances that prevent infection-causing bacteria from sticking to the urinary tract walls. However, store-bought cranberry juice is typically all sugar - so make sure to stick with straight cranberries. One tbsp of honey has a glycemic index (GI) of 55. Ingredients

3 medium apples
3 cups whole cranberries
1 cup water
2 tbsps honey
1/2 cup unpacked brown sugar

Instructions

1. Peel, core and chop apples. Rinse cranberries.

2. Place both in large saucepan. Add sugar, honey and water. Stir to combine.

3. Cover over medium heat until water boils and cranberries begin to pop.

4. Reduce heat and allow to simmer for about 30 minutes or until thick.

5. Remove from heat and allow to cool.

6. Enjoy!
