Health and fertility benefits of Hot Cranberry Cider

Cinnamon is one of the best ingredients that someone with insulin sensitivity can eat. Half a teaspoon of cinnamon per day has been shown to be very effective at normalizing blood sugar levels. Cinnamon contains hydroxychalcone, which is thought to enhance the effects of insulin. It has also been suggested that Cinnamon prevents post-meal blood sugar spikes by slowing the gastric emptying rate - meaning that food digests slowly. (Reference: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11506060).

Ingredients

1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
3 cinnamon sticks, plus additional to use as stirrers
1 tablespoon whole cloves
6 cups cranberry juice
8 cups apple juice
brandy, or light rum or bourbon, optional

Instructions

Put the sugar, cinnamon sticks, and cloves in the basket of a coffee percolator. Put the juices in the bottom of the percolator. Let the mixture perk as if making coffee. Serve with cinnamon stick stirrers, if desired, and with a little rum, brandy, or bourbon as well. Makes 3 1/2 quarts.
Note: This smells so good when it's percolating. Once you've used your coffeepot to make it, however, it always has the smell of cloves and cinnamon sticks in it! We recommend you dedicate a cheap percolator to this recipe
