Health and fertility benefits of Cherry Cranberry Chutney Recipe

Lemons can help to prevent oxidative damage to the body, which women with PCOS are often susceptible to. Researchers believe that cranberries contain substances that prevent infection-causing bacteria from sticking to the urinary tract walls. However, store-bought cranberry juice is typically all sugar - so make sure to stick with straight cranberries. Nuts are a natural source of Inositol, a derivative of Vitamin B (which is often prescribed in the form of supplements for women with PCOS). Inositol can effectively control the symptoms of PCOS by reducing insulin resistance and improving insulin sensitivity. Walnuts are low on the glycemic index. What’s more, they also lower the glycemic index of other foods that you eat in conjunction with these nuts. Any kind of nuts provide a healthy source of fat and a great way to encourage PCOS weight loss.

Ingredients

1 cup dried cherries
1/2 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
1/2 cup raisins
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup unsweetened apple juice
1/4 cup chopped celery
1-1/2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
1/4 to 3/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 cup chopped walnuts, toasted

Instructions

In a small saucepan, combine the first nine ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium; cover and cook for 15-20 minutes or until celery is tender, stirring occasionally.
Remove from the heat; stir in walnuts. Serve warm or at room temperature. Refrigerate leftovers.
